The FXR get a service.

The FXR had been in storage for a year and was in dire need of a service and cleaning.
Last ride prior to service. The hills west of Austin have some beautiful back roads.
All fluids changed, cables lubed and adjusted. I took my time going over her. Then it was time to detail. Looking pretty good for a 12 year old bike.
Cleaned, Serviced and back on the road.I removed the stickers when detailing her. I was working on a deal to trade the '92 for a servi-car, but the deal fell through.

FXR Stuff

Dan purchased this FXR earlier this year, a week later it was sold and down the road. That guy never keeps anything for long.
Kevin has been working on his FXR. Installing the fairing I sold him. Looking good man.

Roadside Checks in.

With a new (to him) 1986 FXRD with 34,000 miles.
Not sure if he just wanted to share his find with me or rub it in my face.
Either way Good on ya Brother.

A fog lifting.

For the last six months I have been in a motorcycle funk.
I stopped reading, wrenching, looking, and riding bikes.
I don't know why or how it happened.

Over the last several months, I have been spending time in the shop, when I'm not looking for a job.
Cleaning, going through boxes, selling shit, and doing some much needed organizing.
Then a few weeks ago it started.

Tinkering with the bikes again. Going through the FXR parts that I hoard,
I started playing around with ideas. Which lead to memories of rides past and nights wrenching
with brothers. Good times.
Plans for future rides and builds started to fill my head.

I guess a break was needed. Helps, to step back and get a different
view of things from time to time.
Keeps the mind fresh.

From the looks of my 92 FXRS,
I think my mind is still a little foggy.

FXR- K?

Kevin has been in his lab again.
Using night vision goggle boxes for saddle bags.

He says " I don't own an FXRT, so I have to make my FXRK."
Gotcha!! Nice job!

First ride of 2011 is now in the books!

1800 miles, 6 states, 2 museums, 2 shows, COLD weather, rain, warm weather,
good friends, a ton of laughs, and one hell of a good time!

Can't wait to do it again.
Pics and stories to come.

Wrenching on the '82.

I'm still scrambling around looking through boxes trying to find shit. So, it takes me twice as long to get anything done. No heat, dim lighting, and sitting on that cold ass concrete doesn't help either. Still I'm happy as hell to be wrenching again!!!!!!!!

Mid - control brake side done. A little hardware and the shifter side will be complete too.

Stock 13" shocks make it look like a dirt bike for now.
Just need to get the fuel tank lower and mounted.

Grocery shopping on 2 wheels.

A few weeks ago my truck was in Florida and I was in NC.
I was riding my 92 FXRS to get around.
Of course it was cold and raining, plus I needed food at my apartment.
The looks from the cagers and other shoppers were worth it.
Life is always better on two wheels.

So close.

Yet so far.

1983 FXRT with 38,000 miles.

Only a few hours from my house.

For sale. Less than 5 grand.

And I'm broke. (I may have to kill the E-line idea.)

Saturday Sweating!!

Back working on the '82 FXR. Clutches acted like they were stuck together so the outter primary had to come off.

Goodies inside. A five finger clutch hub, new fiber plates, and new steele plates! Just clean and go Right?

Not so fast! What made these marks?

Now I know why it's not charging. 5 calls later and the dealership has one in stock.

Saturday final tally = Clutches cleaned and reassembled. New rotor installed. Now charging. Rear fender on. Seat and sissy bar on. Tail light fixed. Both brake light switches work and running light. Regulator wire re-routed. Shes looking good.
I still need tires, wider handle bars, and a few other goodies.
I will be riding her soon.

Saturday Night.

Clean motor, but will it run? I cleaned the main and slow jets. We were surprised at how clean the carb looked. Accelerator pump is still not working and I will need to rebuild the carb in the near future.

We threw some fresh fuel in the now clean tank. Not really expecting much I hit the start button. She rotated over twice and fired up!! She purred like a kitten. NO clicks, clacks, knocks, or any other noises that we expected. FUCKING SAWEET!!!

Now the original plan was to put a Frisco'ed Sporty tank, solo seat, drag bars with high risers, bar mounted gauges, and a high mounted Thunderheader.

That changed slightly when I asked Kevin if he still had a fairing he picked up a few years ago at the All Harley Drags in Rockingham.
Oh yeah that sweet Live to Ride points cover is off the bike and in a ever growing pile of parts for e-bay.

More time with the 82 FXR

Now this one has been sitting since 2004. I replaced the battery and had to clean the fuel system. So the tank came off to get cleaned.

This may be where the short is located.

Tank flushed, new fluids, and filter.

I removed a ton of unneeded wiring. Installed a new proper switch. That dash mounted unit has to go!! Turn signals are gone as well. Head light works now and so does the HI/LOW indicator. Short gone!

Stage 1

These Ness covers have got to go!

It's a start. Wind sheild, bags, brackets, bars, Ness covers, big ugly seat, front fender, and horn all GONE!

I was going to leave the solo seat on, but I am taking a passenger with me to the Smokeout. So the Sissy bar and a 2 up seat will stay for now.

At this point she will crank over and has spark. We can hear a circuit breaker tripping as soon as the dash switch is turned on. No lights working at all.

First pics.

The day after I got here. I unloaded her at the Gear Head compound.

The idea is to remove all that is not necessary and ugly.

Get her ready for the Smokeout.

The Mystery Bike.

Here are pics of my 1982 FXRS that I picked up a few months ago. I worked on this deal for a few months before I finally got it (thanks to a loan from a brother).

Her she is in the back of my truck. I still had the Triumph when I got the FXR.

Here she is at the office. Clean motor.

Now here is the kicker! I got the bike, title, extra tank, and 3 extra front fenders for.....

$2,000

Now that is a Roadside deal if there ever was one.

Hey Roadside.

FXRP idea for ya. If you can get it out of AZ and back home.

Ready to ride

This guy looks ready for all those epic rides I hear people at the dealership talking about. You know like Ft. Lauderdale to Daytona, Charleston to Myrtle Beach, Columbia to Charlotte. Man those HOG members know how to ride far.

Cool bike though.

FXR addiction!!

I don't mind shareing my FXR parts stash with CLOSE friends.

But since a lot of FUCKING JACK OFFS are now jumping on the FXR wagon, parts are getting hard to find and are usually priced through the roof.
I wish choppers were still cool!

Still a nice bike.

FXRT

Still looking for one of these.

I have no money, but still looking.

I do have a 1936 VLH I would trade for one. Has to be complete with title. None running is fine.

Nice FXR

Pic stolen from another blog.

Still a clean bike.
