Little sister sent me a few update pics on her "Dragon Lady" project.

Cleaning the rims and getting them ready for new shoes.

New (to her) bank of carbs, cleaned and ready for assembly.

Covers removed for cleaning.

Blasting the crud off.

Clean and ready for installation.

New hardware too.

The year of cleaning out!!!!!!!!!

I've moved every three years or so since 1999 and every time I move, I think to myself "Damn I have a lot of shit!" Sure it's organized and in bins on shelves, but there is a lot of shit. I have sold, donated, traded, and trashed a lot of it over the years. Some of I kept for that "One Day, I can use this or I will have a house/garage to display this in." Well this year I told myself "No More!!!"

This year I have spent some time moving other peoples stuff into storage units for them. Weather it's from a relatives house who passed away or someone moving to a smaller house. Seeing and moving all their stuff motivated me to get rid of my own crap. I may have to move for work and I don't want to drag some of this shit around with me any more.

I have made some head way this year by selling stuff I never thought I would ever sell. Records, magazines, clothes, old riding gear, license plates, camping gear, gun parts, car parts, motorcycle parts, tools, comics, collectibles, and anything else I deem unnecessary is going.

I spend almost all of my free time going through boxes, taking pictures, and listing them on forums.

I'm a member of more fucking forums than I care to be, but it's better than paying e-bay listing and sales fees. When it sells, great! When it doesn't, Lower the price and try again. Once one box of shit is sold, grab another and repeat. This year I am getting to the core of what I need.

A buddy of mine once told me he lived out of a duffel bag for four years. I may not get to that extreme, but I will get close to it.

So, this year I may not post a lot of riding or wrenching, but I am getting shit done while I look for a job.

New oil. Well this is the oil shit being pumped out but, you get the idea.

New set of carbs that are complete and not fucked up.

A fog lifting.

For the last six months I have been in a motorcycle funk.

I stopped reading, wrenching, looking, and riding bikes.

I don't know why or how it happened.

Over the last several months, I have been spending time in the shop, when I'm not looking for a job.

Cleaning, going through boxes, selling shit, and doing some much needed organizing.

Then a few weeks ago it started.

Tinkering with the bikes again. Going through the FXR parts that I hoard,

I started playing around with ideas. Which lead to memories of rides past and nights wrenching

with brothers. Good times.

Plans for future rides and builds started to fill my head.

I guess a break was needed. Helps, to step back and get a different

view of things from time to time.

Keeps the mind fresh.

From the looks of my 92 FXRS,

I think my mind is still a little foggy.

The Dragon Lady of Texas sends an update.

Little Sister is resurrecting a 1980 KZ 650 that has been sitting for 10 years.

She sent me some update info and progress pictures for

the "Dragon Lady".

Tear down and inspection of the carbs.

Old fuel that has turned to sticky gunk!

Tear down complete. She didn't tell me how many screw

heads she stripped or mangled.

(My average is about 2 per float bowl.)

Damage report:

One areation tube busted. Time to find a replacement carb body.

JB Weld won't help here.

Oh Yeah, the tips to the A/F Mixer Screws on the right.

Good luck getting those out and not fucking up the seats.

Front end fun.

Chrome covers suck!! They add weight, rattle, and usually look cheesy. They also hide damage and stupid modifications. Since I am waiting on parts to come in. I figured it was a good time to rebuild the front end.

More parts for the pile.

Some jack ass cut the headlight visor mounts off the top tree so they could install a chrome cover.

The lower tree is missing a fork stop and the other one is cracked and almost gone.

I think one has been sourced from the pile o' parts at Gear Head Cycles.

The neck bearings were almost dry, but still in good shape.

A 39mm front will be in future plans.

Wrenching on the '82.

I'm still scrambling around looking through boxes trying to find shit. So, it takes me twice as long to get anything done. No heat, dim lighting, and sitting on that cold ass concrete doesn't help either. Still I'm happy as hell to be wrenching again!!!!!!!!

Mid - control brake side done. A little hardware and the shifter side will be complete too.

Stock 13" shocks make it look like a dirt bike for now.

Just need to get the fuel tank lower and mounted.

Loosing weight.

With a place to work, it's time to get wrenching.

Headed to SC this past weekend. First stop was at Jacks.

We dropped in his re-manufactured motor then celebrated with chocolate chip muffins.

I always seen to have some sort of project going on. Dustin just got back from the Speed Trials at Bonneville. He is going to put a Triumph bike together for next year. My dumb ass says "No Problem" when he asks if I can true the wheels.

I'm getting ready to go on a 9 week run for work, 6 days a week. So between laundry loads, I get to true wheels. The rear is done. The front is giving me problems. I hate wheels with an offset.

Saturday Sweating!!

Back working on the '82 FXR. Clutches acted like they were stuck together so the outter primary had to come off.

Goodies inside. A five finger clutch hub, new fiber plates, and new steele plates! Just clean and go Right?

Not so fast! What made these marks?

Now I know why it's not charging. 5 calls later and the dealership has one in stock.

Saturday final tally = Clutches cleaned and reassembled. New rotor installed. Now charging. Rear fender on. Seat and sissy bar on. Tail light fixed. Both brake light switches work and running light. Regulator wire re-routed. Shes looking good.
I still need tires, wider handle bars, and a few other goodies.
I will be riding her soon.

Saturday Night.

Clean motor, but will it run? I cleaned the main and slow jets. We were surprised at how clean the carb looked. Accelerator pump is still not working and I will need to rebuild the carb in the near future.

We threw some fresh fuel in the now clean tank. Not really expecting much I hit the start button. She rotated over twice and fired up!! She purred like a kitten. NO clicks, clacks, knocks, or any other noises that we expected. FUCKING SAWEET!!!

Now the original plan was to put a Frisco'ed Sporty tank, solo seat, drag bars with high risers, bar mounted gauges, and a high mounted Thunderheader.

That changed slightly when I asked Kevin if he still had a fairing he picked up a few years ago at the All Harley Drags in Rockingham.
Oh yeah that sweet Live to Ride points cover is off the bike and in a ever growing pile of parts for e-bay.

More time with the 82 FXR

Now this one has been sitting since 2004. I replaced the battery and had to clean the fuel system. So the tank came off to get cleaned.

This may be where the short is located.

Tank flushed, new fluids, and filter.

I removed a ton of unneeded wiring. Installed a new proper switch. That dash mounted unit has to go!! Turn signals are gone as well. Head light works now and so does the HI/LOW indicator. Short gone!

Stage 1

These Ness covers have got to go!

It's a start. Wind sheild, bags, brackets, bars, Ness covers, big ugly seat, front fender, and horn all GONE!

I was going to leave the solo seat on, but I am taking a passenger with me to the Smokeout. So the Sissy bar and a 2 up seat will stay for now.

At this point she will crank over and has spark. We can hear a circuit breaker tripping as soon as the dash switch is turned on. No lights working at all.
