Fifth Annual AMCA Southern National Meet

Got a chance to hang out with Ian and Mike on Friday at the meet. 

Lots of laughs at the others expense. Good time for sure.

It doesn't matter what color or how dirty. Knuckleheads are just cool.

Denton Farm Park is a great place for this event.

Lots of antique mechanical farm equipment that still works.

Sunday at the Pinehurst Concours d' Elegance

7:30am:
With the weather threatening to ruin the day, Pepper and I headed out towards Pinehurst, NC.
I had never been to a show like this before and was a looking forward to it.

9:30am:
 It is very evident that there is a lot of old money at this type of show. Wearing vans, jeans, and a DC Choppers long sleeve, I received a few stares from other patrons while riding the tram from the Polo Grounds to the Club House/Show Grounds.

10:00am:
With music flowing from speakers mounted in trees, we made our way to the show grounds. Greeting us was a 1960's Vintage Ferrari 275 LM.

 12:00pm:
I keep hearing other patrons asking about someone who is at the show. Is he a rock star? Who is the guy with the long hair? Is he some sort of celebrity? Is he a movie star? Look! There he is!
I look over where the guy in the suit is pointing. In skinny jeans, greasy boots, a flannel shirt, and a trucker hat covering his dread locks is Magnus Walker. Magnus Walker is the owner of Serious clothing and the focus of the short film Urban Outlaw. A Porsche collector, racer and builder of some slick 911's, Magnus has been on the rise in the Porsche community over the last year or so.

He is a 911 guru and with this being the 50th Anniversary of the 911, he has been asked to attend many of the Porsche events this year. I got a chance to talk to him for awhile. He's a nice guy who knows his 911's. He was surprised at the amount of cars that were at the show and how most of them were local. He is looking forward to attending this event next year and expects it to be even bigger.

With this being the 50th for the Porsche 911 and the 60th for the Corvette, both were heavily represented at Pinehurst.

Tom Cotter whose "In the Barn" Series I recommend to all, was there with his 1964 Corvette Stingray Race car which he still competes with on the track.

Tom was selling a his revised book on Holman Moody Race Team. I may have to get that one in the near future.

This 1970 Plymouth Superbird, took home the Chairmans Award.

 Rick Hendrick's 1968 Corvette L88. Listed as the most Victorious Corvette in history. This car set Mr. Hendricks back $1,100,000.00 when he purchased it at auction earlier this year. It sounds as good as it looks.

 This Rally Styled Porsche was one of my favorites of the show.

This 1936 Stout Scarab was really cool. The metal work and detail on this thing was incredible.

2:00pm:
It started to drizzle while the class winners were announced. We decided to beat it before the sky's really opened up and the dash for cover happened.

A BIG "THANKS" goes out to Kara for the tickets and parking pass. Tickets for this thing were $40 to $50 each. I don't think we would have gone if not for Kara's gift.

Another Book Report.

Tom Cotter is back with another of his "In the Barn" series.

After the Cobra, Hemi, and Vincent in the Barn, his latest book is 

"Corvette in the barn."

This book is another collection of great barn find car stories and gives the truth behind "The 

Barn Find of the Century Hoax, plus many more.

Jeffries' Porsche, Corvette Sleuth, Junk Yard Ferrari, and Snake and the Satellite were a few of my favorites. 

I highly recommend these books to anyone who still dreams of finding that rare or not so rare dirty, rusty treasured car or part one day. Tom even included some hunting tips in the back of the book.

 

AMCA Denton, NC

This is the third year I have dragged my ass out to the AMCA meet in Denton, NC. I always have a good time here, checking out old shit. Motorcycles, parts, memorabilia, and don't forget the home made ice cream!!!

If the record was still in it, this would have been hard to pass up.

OH!! BLUES!!!!!!!

The second motorcycle I owned was a '83 Kawi GPZ 550. Mine was nowhere near as nice as this one.

Now for sale at an antique meet. Fuck!!! I'm feeling old!

If you like vintage iron, then you should go here. Indians, Triumphs, BSAs, Harleys, Etc...

They are all here and more. There was a ton of BMW parts and bikes this year too.

These guys just rode in from Maggie Valley. About 90% of them were vintage bikes.

We left just as the hipsters started showing up. Nice VWs though.

We got to catch up with a few friends that we had not seen in awhile and check out a bunch of cool old shit. I'm looking forward to going again next year.

The AMCA held another meet at the Denton Farm Park.

I forgot my camera, but was able to get a few blurry picks before the rain

caused a bunch of the vendors to run off.

62 Nova - Final Chapter - For Now

Off the jack stands and for the first time in a few years!

Fenders, hood, headlight buckets, bumper, and bumper trim installed.

Grill and headlights ready to go on.

Less than eight hours later, this is how we left her.

Bill looked emotionally drained at this point.

I think Kevin and I wore him out a little.

He was real quite, just staring at his project.

Been there brother. I do know how you feel!

We had a good time and made a little progress.

We still had to load up my tool box, Bills bike and some other stuff.

Then unload it at my storage unit.

A BIG "Thanks" to Kevin for all his help!

We were not trying to get the car back together and run her.

Only back together to move her.

Mission accomplished.

The 62 Chevy Nova - Part 3

Motor and transmission in and bolted up.

Wheels on and aired up.

Hood hinge and a bunch of other miscellaneous shit on and hooked up.

The 62 Nova - PART 2

Bill admits that he is a body and paint man.

Me? I like motors. I can't stand body work!!!!!

Bill had taken the motor apart. I wish he hadn't.

It was like a NHRA crew between rounds.

I think Kevin and I made Bill a little crazy.

Asking him where shit was every 5 minutes.

I didn't take a picture of the motor before.

It was a bare block with the crank and main caps in it.

Around an hour later we had a motor. It won't run without a rebuild.

It is easier to move it all together.

Time for the engine hoist.

The 1962 Chevy Nova - PART 1

History of the Nova:

Our father purchased the car new in 1962. It was his first NEW car.

It was driven from Washington DC to New York, while dad courted mom.

Mom learned to drive in it.

It hasn't run since 1985.

It was given to Bill in 2000.

Bill tore it apart to check damage for the future restoration.

Economy caused restoration to be put on hold.

Bill is moving back to Florida.

Car is eaiser to move in one piece.

Bill needed help.

Kevin and I make a trip on Saturday.
